The Blurb
Leonardo is a young man who is standing on a crossroad of life, facing choices. One road leads to a high stress career that brings in big bucks; the other is a chance to make a real difference in lives of others. He has a few questions, questions that all of us have faced when facing choices that can change our lives. Does fate make a man, or do his desires? Do ambitions and desires actually lead a person to true happiness and fulfillment, or does providence and life changing events actually show a person the true path to follow?
‘Choices’ raises these questions, and attempts to answer them. It is a slice-of-life, a book written from the heart.

MY RATING : 3.5 out of 5.
Like the bitter sweet flavor of dark chocolate on a scoop of vanilla ice cream? If yes, then grab a copy of Choices , written by Ruchira Khanna. It has just that perfect philosophical tinge in the flowing creamy narrative which has been set on the background of San Francisco. In the intricate structure of the novel, Ruchira Khanna weaves familial relationships which goes beyond blood- ties. The Silvas, the Lopez family , Sophia’s family , Amy’s family and others form the close-knit world of Choices and extends beyond that with the universal aura.
The author has done justice to the theme of the novel by the use of lucid language, revealing the depth within the simplicity. The characters are unique in their own ways and stand out prominently. Even though the novel is about Leonardo, son of Albert, the warden, the author gives space to the Lopez family too, who stands by Leonardo’s side after his father is murdered. Even though the characters are Americans or people of Hispanic origin, their feelings, their problems and their struggle break the borders of race and religion, thereby giving the novel, an international readership.
The novel has an omnipotent narrator who does not try to impose any personal view upon the readers. Rather, as the name of the novel suggests, the readers are left to form their own opinion, based on their own ‘choice’. Leonardo’s life, which suffers from the dearth of balance between “ the personal “ and “ the professional “ evokes a huge problem which people are facing these days. The author, without any ‘philosophical lecture ‘ , subtly points out these problems. The heart-warming relationships between Amelia- Amy, Albert – Mateo and others evoke a delightful read.
The novel is a good book to read and I thank the author for composing a heartwarming tale without burdening my mind with heavy-weight questions and problems. I appreciate her efforts. Honestly, the book is a good one and I would suggest my readers to read it, at least once.

Meet the Author
Choices: A Novel talks about how we all come to crossroads in our respective lives, and then the impact it makes by a choice we make.
A biochemist by profession made a mere choice of enrolling myself into a technical writing course. Now, little did I know that this small decision would take me on a path to creative writing and eventually publishing a novel.

This novel, Choices helps answer many questions about man’s ambitions and desires and how is it a road towards happiness and contentment that could eventually become your destiny. This is a “slice-of-life” genre thus, impacting all humans who have made a choice sometime or the other in this lifetime!
